Why Choose Us

Getting the most out of a holiday to Japan depends upon gaining insider knowledge on the most authentic and unique experiences that this wonderful unique destination has to offer.

Japan Cultural Tours will help you navigate the endless choices on offer – whether art & craft, cuisine, nature, history or custom & ritual. And of course, we also offer you the mundane but practical travel advice on how to maximize your next journey to Japan.

We use only professionally trained guides bilingual in Japanese and English and who have a deep knowledge of and passion for Japan’s people, culture and history. The best guides take you off the beaten track, know the best sightseeing locations and photo spots and give a unique insight into local culture.

A great tour guide will give their country’s history a personal context. Anyone can read the history of a country or its culture, but a more personal perspective offers a truly human context. No book can do what a great guide does.

So why wait, visit Japan in 2019! Japan represents a cultural enigma of traditional culture and a bustling modern society and it’s just waiting to be discovered. Our website provides some in-depth knowledge of Japan and a selection of truly authentic Japan travel experiences from which to choose from. Call us and let us tailor-make an itinerary for you. Japan is calling you!

SYDNEY

My name is Kiyoshi, a Cross-Cultural Specialist Travel Consultant and your Japanese Connection. For more than 30 years I have escorted Australians in groups and individually to Japan, either for business and leisure or a bit of both! I have gained a deep insight into Japan as an authentic cultural destination.

Educated in Japan, England, the United States and Australia, I fully understand both Japanese and Western perspectives. My family owned a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) in Ishikawa Prefecture, and thus from an early age hospitality and tourism has been in my blood.

I relish assisting my clients to enjoy a surprising and enriching cultural tour of my enigmatic homeland. Many of the choices I’ll present to you are traditional, yet accessible, Japanese cultural experiences.

Alejandro

Coordinator
TOKYO

Hola! My Name is Alejandro. I’m originally from the Bay Area(San Jose!). I came to Japan
in 2012 to study Japanese. I loved everything that Japan had to offered, so I knew I wanted to come back again soon. After graduating from Chico State, working at Google for a year, I decided to make my return to Japan in 2015 and haven’t looked back.
I want to provide unforgettable experiences that no other guidebook or website can tell you. I love to travel, meet new people, and find the best-hidden gems around the world.

I have a lot of knowledge on Tokyo’s nightlife as I run bar hopping tours. I’ve hosted over 1000 guests in the year that I started my tours and everyone leaves with unforgettable memories. I also run my own Social media page for Japan nightlife as well. I’m not difficult to talk to and pretty open to anything, just expect the unexpected when you
hang out with me. That means: we could be singing Karaoke all night, go to Tokyo biggest night club or get ramen at 5 am in the morning (literally one of the best food to have at that hour). So come out and lets have some drinks! Kanpai!

  • I have been fortunate enough to visit Japan on a number of occasions with each trip organised and hosted by Kiyoshi Matsumoto, from Japan Cultural Tours. On each visit I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the trip, the itineraries and tours prepared by Kiyoshi have been exceptional. Kiyoshi has a wonderful way of finding unique and authentic Japanese experiences for you, from the Buddhist Zen temples and Shinto shrines in the seaside Kamakura to the mountainous region around Takayama for Cherry Blossom season!
I have always enjoyed Japanese food and Kiyoshi has organised some wonderful restaurant experiences for me. One of my favourites was when we dined in a very traditional Japanese Sand Barbeque restaurant located in the middle of Tokyo in a high-rise building! Another time Kiyoshi organised a restaurant in the Ginza district that seated only 10 people with the best-stocked wine cellar I have ever seen! These were real local restaurants, that were not on the tourist map.
As well Kiyoshi’s recommendations for accommodation have always been exceptional with good quality accommodation that is central and convenient. I will definitely travel back to Japan again; the food, the culture and history are all amazing experiences that everyone should enjoy.

  • Kiyoshi from Japan Cultural Tours has supported me in planning trips and has accompanied me on several trips to Japan, both professionally and privately. Kiyoshi is an excellent guide to the special places in Japan you cannot find without cultural knowledge and personal assistance.
Several years ago my wife and I travelled on a Japanese cruise liner from Yokohama to Kobe via Busan in Korea and although we did not book this cruise through Kiyoshi we found his patient guidance invaluable when planning this trip. Kiyoshi has an admirable knowledge of regional food in Japan and knows the best time and the best places to enjoy them at their peak. I have found his knowledge of all things Japan to be amazing and admire his patience in the face of many questions each time we travel!
Our next planned visit to Japan is with two other couples and will be in June this year to Niseko to experience Hokkaido in the summer season followed by Kyoto/Osaka and we have relied on Kiyoshi for advice during our planning for this trip. Transfer advice in Hokkaido and cultural experiences in Kyoto for a small group who have been to Japan several times but still, require knowledgeable assistance from an experienced operator.
